Included API credits

$100 of OpenAI API credits per paid Premium seat, pooled per workspace and capped at $500 per month (annual prepaid workspaces up to $6,000)

This is an API spending allowance on your own API organization. It is not a discount on the subscription price and does not reduce or refund the monthly fee.

Claim requirements

• The paid subscription must have been active for at least 7 days.
• The subscriber must claim and activate the benefit manually; it is not granted automatically.
• The ChatGPT account and the linked API account must share the same email address.
• The person activating must hold the ChatGPT subscription (for Pro) or own the Business workspace, and must be the owner of the receiving API organization; workspace membership or an admin role alone is not enough.
• One eligible subscription or workspace can link to only one API organization, and one API organization can hold only one active benefit.
• Availability can be limited by country, region and account rollout batches.
• Linking an organization does not guarantee a grant; the credit grants visible in API billing are authoritative.
• Pro: sign in with the eligible account and open Settings → Billing, then find the API credits benefit and confirm the receiving API organization.
• Business: the workspace owner opens the workspace billing settings or Admin Console and completes the same linking step.
• Alternatively start from the API platform Billing page with the same email, select the organization and pick the matching subscription or workspace.

Allowance validity

• Monthly credits expire at the end of the matching billing cycle and unused credits do not roll over.
• Annual prepaid Business credits expire at the end of the annual billing cycle.
• The first grant may be prorated to the remaining time in the current paid cycle.
• Once activated, renewals grant new credits automatically while the benefit is available and the subscription remains eligible.
• OpenAI may change or end this benefit in the future.

What it covers

• Covers billable OpenAI API Platform usage on the linked organization: Responses and Chat Completions, Agents, Decisions, GPT-Live / Realtime, Images, and eligible built-in tools including related usage and storage charges.
• No API payment method is required while active free credits remain.
• Free credits are consumed before purchased credits; when they run out and no balance remains, requests fail with HTTP 429 credit_balance_exhausted.
• Business teammates need separate API organization and project access; a ChatGPT seat does not grant it, and API usage or API limits do not transfer into ChatGPT Business.

Exclusions and limits

• Not available to ChatGPT Free, Go or Plus, nor to free-trial or gifted subscriptions, Enterprise, Edu or legacy Codex seats.
• Does not cover Codex usage billed through an API key.
• Does not increase ChatGPT message limits, logged-in Codex usage or Business workspace internal allowances, and does not remove request-rate, token-rate, model, organization or project limits.
• Credits cannot be redeemed for cash and are not a withdrawable balance.
• The credits are an API spending allowance; they do not reduce, discount or refund the subscription price.
• Cancelling a subscription does not revoke credits already issued; they stay usable until the end of the current billing cycle. Downgrading to Plus, Go or Free, or moving to Enterprise, removes the link at the end of that cycle.
• An approved full refund removes the unused promotional API credits tied to the refunded charge; a subscription refund is not a cash refund of the promotional balance.
